Fishguard Folk Singers are a group of friends who began singing and playing together in 2015 almost by accident.  They all go to the regular Tuesday night folk club sessions in the Royal Oak, but had not sung as a group until the R.N.L.I. asked the club  if anyone could provide entertainment for their annual supper. They rehearsed some shanties and songs of the sea and went along to perform.  Since then they have sung at many events to raise funds for the annual Fishguard Folk Festival, held over the late May Bank holiday Weekend  and to raise money for organisations such as Welsh Air Ambulance, R.N.L.I. and other local community causes.  They have a varied repertoire, including popular traditional shanties and sea songs, some in Welsh and some self-penned.  They were in Falmouth in 2017 as visitors to the International Shanty festival and were asked to stand in for a group who were unable to come.  As a result of that, the singers were asked to return in 2018 as featured performers and bring their special brand of music from West Wales.  Fishguard Folk Singers can also adapt their set to accommodate seasonal songs such as Christmas carols. If you want to organise a fundraiser of your choice, we will come and sing and play for you, subject to availability,  all we ask for is a donation to the festival funds, dependent on monies raised at the event.
